How to Create Next-Level Social Media Captions

In this blog post, I'm going to be walking you through the steps required to create next-level social media captions.

Let's get started!

What are social media captions?

For anyone who doesn't know, social media captions are the text and hashtags that you see below pictures on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, etc. These captions are what allow people to discover your posts. Hashtags are especially important for this since they are the keywords of the social media world.

If you're already on social media, you know exactly what I'm talking about. You're scrolling through your feed when you see a picture that piques your interest. Wondering what the picture is all about, you start reading the caption below it to see where the picture was taken, who took it, etc.

In this kind of scenario, your caption won't do you any good if you don't have a good picture or graphic to go along with it. You need the visual aspect to really make your social media marketing strategy work.

That being said, not every post has to include a picture. Social media platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook give you the option to just write a short bit of text and post it. This can still be very helpful in your social media marketing strategy, but it means you have to pay even more attention to your caption. Since you don't have a picture to hold your potential customer's attention, you're going to have to rely completely on the caption to get them interested in your business.

The first step to doing that is finding your core idea.

Finding your core idea

Your core idea is the main point behind the post.

For example, let's say you own a dog shampoo company. You don't want every single social media post to have a caption talking about dog shampoo in general. What you actually want to do is find and pinpoint small details about your company or individual products. If you have a dog shampoo that is specially made for dogs with very curly hair, your caption could look something like this:

Help your curly-haired pup spring into their day looking great and feeling even better. (Fakedogshampoo) is specially made with ingredients like (exampleingredient) to protect your pup's curls from insects, dandruff, and more.

This caption covers one main point, has a simple call to action, isn't too long, and has relevant hashtags. Now all your dog shampoo company has to do is add a picture of a cute, curly-haired dog.

Choosing your hashtags

If you look at the dog shampoo example above, you'll notice that the hashtags are all based on words used in the rest of the caption. This is the easiest way to choose your hashtags, but it's also a good idea to find out which hashtags are most popular.

All you have to do is enter your hashtag into the search bar of your social media platform. Most social media platforms will tell you how many people use that particular hashtag or how many people follow it. This will help you choose hashtags that will help people find and interact with your posts organically.

Putting your caption together

Now that you have your core idea and your hashtags, you can bring it all together. Just make sure you use the right tone for your audience. When you create a social media caption you need to keep your social media marketing strategy in mind.

What defines your brand's voice? Who is your target audience? Is this social media post too similar to the one you posted yesterday? The answers to all these questions will determine exactly how you word your caption.

Remember, everyone has their own unique writing style. Once you pick a tone for your business's social media, stick with it. This will help you build your brand's voice.
